After 10 days in an Airbnb near the shipyard, Jim was finally able to return to Guidance Friday morning. The boat had been out of the water for maintenance, including routine engine maintenance and bottom paint. The boat had never needed bottom paint in Lake Superior due to the cold water and short seasons which kept growth to a minimum. Sailing into the ocean and warmer waters, the situation is different.
Anne returned Friday evening after two weeks of work in Minneapolis. We settled into the boat and then on Saturday greeted our niece, Lucy, and her partner, Tyler. They are sailors who recently moved onto their boat in Portland, ME and will join us on our passage to Newport, RI.
This morning we set out from the shipyard. We were able to catch some unexpected wind and sail for a bit but motored much of the day. We were treated to a pod of dolphins who swam right past the boat!
We are at anchor tonight, in a quiet bay. We enjoyed a delicious dinner of grilled steak and chicken with a Brussels sprouts salad in the cockpit, watching the sun set.
