We got an early start for Alpena, MI this morning. We started with moderate winds from the north (about 10-15 kts), which allowed us to put up sail once we were out of the channel and in Lake Huron. It was so nice to finally get to sail for real! We were doing 7 kts in exactly the direction we wanted.
The forecast said this wouldn’t last forever, and it was correct. After a few hours the winds diminished and we had to start motoring. Then the forecasted drizzle also came. Not the most glorious experience, but easily bearable with the autopilot and the cockpit enclosure which keeps the rain and most wind off us.
Grey, wet and cool is how we would describe this afternoon’s weather. Our friend Bobby turned us onto dehydrated meals, and we enjoyed the beef stew with quesadillas Anne made. It sure was nice to have an easy, warm dinner on a day like today!
Tonight, we anchored off Alpena with the heat on and kicked back. It feels good to be warm.
