Lake Huron (and Michigan) have been good to us. We’ve enjoyed the chance to explore new places and meet new people. If we weren’t on a mission with a bit of a timetable, we would have enjoyed slowing down and digging more deeply into all that we’ve seen. However, it is time to move forward.
We woke early and were underway before 7:00. Lake Huron was lumpy from a night of wind, but Guidance carried us well to the mouth of the St. Clair River. As we passed under the Blue Water bridge, which spans from Michigan to Ontario, the waves calmed and the current picked up.
We sped down the river, pushed by a current which added 2+ kts to our speed. The river is about 35 nm long and drains Lake Huron into Lake St. Clair.
When we entered Lake St. Clair, we got a chance to put up our sails and rocketed at 7 kts toward our marina for tonight, located in St. Clair Shores, essentially a suburb of Detroit.
We usually prefer to be on anchor — it’s often quieter and more private, but sometimes there isn’t a good anchorage convenient to where we want to be.
Tomorrow, we plan to get an early start and head towards Lake Erie.
