Our First Taste of PEI

On Saturday we had an easy run from Bouctouche to Summerside, Prince Edward Island (PEI), a mix of sailing and motoring under rainy skies. We arrived at about 7 pm.

Arriving at Summerside

We had a delicious seafood dinner at the Marina bar with Anne’s cousin Tim and his wife Kate, who have a cottage on the north side of PEI (opposite from us here in Summerside) and were soon to bed after a long day.

Plenty of food for us

Kate invited us to spend Sunday with neighbor friends on their fishing boat. They have a tradition of heading down the French River to a small chain of islands, beaching the boat and enjoying the day swimming, walking the beach, grilling, and socializing.

After a day of enjoying the beach, the captain gave us a tour of the Island’s stunning north coast. The red cliffs, green grass and blue water made for impressive views. We also were able to see some of the damage from Hurricane Fiona, October 2022.

By about 8:30 pm, we arrived back at Kate and Tim’s cottage. We had a delicious feast of raw oysters, mussels, and more steak, lamb and sides than any of us could eat, all compliments of Tim. We finished off with a divine cheesecake made by Kate’s mother, Heather, who joined us as well.

All in all, an unforgettable day — we tumbled into bed well after midnight.
