Two weeks ago we left Bayfield to start Guidance’s Exodus to the sea. Interesting that we should bookend these two weeks with overnight passages, and how different the overnights were!
Our first overnight on Superior was very cold. We wore 3-5 layers of clothing to try to bear it. It was Anne’s first overnight, and it had been more than a year since Jim had done an overnight. We had not yet settled into a boat rhythm. Now, we are experienced with Guidance, the weather was almost balmy, and we have a regular motion to how we do this together. These passages feel further apart than just two weeks.
Over these two weeks, we have traveled:
- 867 nm
- Through Lakes Superior, Huron, and Erie, and their connecting waterways
- Through Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania
In a few days, we will leave Pennsylvania and the United States to start our journey into Lake Ontario via the Welland Canal.
